The Adelaide City Council initially refused the Government’s proposal to cut down the trees, but was overruled by the Development Assessment Commission last week.
“The Weatherill Labor Government has overridden the Council’s decision and the wishes of the public of whom they were elected to represent,” Ms Sanderon said.
“The axing of these trees today is 105 years of South Australian heritage that has been demolished for car parking.
“What is the point in having a community land management plan if the Government completely ignores the wishes of the community?
“I have also requested copies of the arborist’s reports, but Infrastructure Minister Conlon will not release them. Why won’t he release them if he has nothing to hide?”
