Liberal amendment a win for Magistrates

This initiative was proposed by Rachel Sanderson, the Member for Adelaide, after it was raised with her by a local resident at a neighbourhood watch meeting she attended.

“This amendment just makes perfect sense to me, it seems silly to keep the retirement age for Magistrates at 65 if, in the same piece of legislation, they’re going to change the retirement age of the Chief Justice,” Ms Sanderson said.

“With an ageing population we should be taking every step we can to encourage people to work longer – especially those with the skills, knowledge and experience of magistrates.

“My personal view is that people should be able to keep working for as long as they like providing they are physically and mentally capable of doing so”.
