On Sunday, 25 October 2015 Rachel joined the Greek Orthodox Community SA and laid a wreath to commemorate Greek National Day at the Cathedral of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel.
This year Greek National Day commemorates the 75th anniversary of Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas rejecting the ultimatum to allow Italian occupation in Greece or to face war, made by Italian Prime Minister Benito Mussolini on October 28, 1940.
During a ceremony at the monument at the Cathedral wreaths were laid to pay tribute to the men and women who sacrificed their lives for Greece’s independence. The ceremony also included the recitation of poems, songs, and a playing of the National Anthem by the Greek language school students.
Rachel attends this ceremony every year and is honoured to participate in an event that is so significant to Greek cultural heritage.
