For the past 3 years Rachel has been supporting Operation Flinders by setting up a Prospect Chapter and raising money to support 10 local youth aged 14-17 years old to participate in the Operations Flinders program.
Operation Flinders Foundation operates a world leading wilderness adventure program, catering to young offenders and young people at risk. Youth between the age of 14 and 18 years old embark on an eight day exercise on Yankaninna Station in the northern Flinders Ranges. It provides an opportunity for the participants learn new skills, to learn teamwork, and to grow as valued members of the community.
The $16,500 program cost for the Prospect Chapter of Operation Flinders was raised with the support of local service clubs, with the Lions Club of Prospect Blair Athol as the major sponsor, along with donations from the Rotary Club of Prospect and community members. Rachel also hosts and annual Quiz night as a major fundraiser which is also well supported by the local community and service clubs.
This year youths from Blackfriars Priory School were selected to experience this life changing opportunity. On Monday, 9 November Rachel hosted the participants, their families, teachers from Blackfriars, as well as the major supporters for a special presentation and tea at Parliament House.
