The Marshall Liberal Government will shortly be introducing legislation to phase out single-use plastic products in South Australia.
As your local representative, I'd like to hear your views - so I can ensure the legislation reflects our local community's priorities.
WHAT IS BEING PROPOSED?
- An immediate phase out of single use plastic straws, plastic cutlery and plastic stirrers.
- Phasing out after 12 months the use of takeaway expanded polystyrene cups (eg. coffee and soup cups), expanded polystyrene food containers (eg. 'clam shell' containers) and some plastic bags.
- Other items are being considered such as takeaway coffee cups, plastic bags that are thicker and not compostable and other takeaway food service items.
